This is Megiddo

January 29, 2011

Tel Megiddo was an historically important and interesting site to visit. The most intriguing  about this particular city defense is that the defenders knew about a water spring at the bottom of their hilltop; to keep it secret from their enemies, they blocked up the cave or overlook right next to the spring and then dug this huge tunnel through bedrock to get to the water.  There was also a pretty big inverted grain silo dug out in the ground to store food.  Because of these supplies of water and food, they could survive an attack for quite some time.  It was the site of several battles.
